People called 911 when they saw the 20-by-20 hole open up in a parking lot at 4525 S. Wasatch Blvd.
The tire of a nearby car was caught on the edge of the hole, but there was no one was in the vehicle at the time.
“We aren’t certain (what caused the sinkhole),” said Unified Fire Capt. Fernando Rivero. “We can hear water running, and that’s all we know at this point. We aren’t able to get close enough to determine whether its a leak or just water running under there.”
It will take some time to fix the hole. Fire crews estimate it’s about 8 to 10 feet deep.
