Detroit, Michigan. August 18th, 2011.

Police said a woman, her daughter and granddaughter escaped her SUV this afternoon before it fell into a sinkhole in a street on Detroit’s north end. Sgt. Eren Stephens said the 62-year-old woman tried to drive slowly through a patch of water on Beaubien at Smith around 4:40 p.m. when it failed to gain traction. The woman, whose name wasn’t released, and her family got out of the SUV and saw it sink.
