Kalamazoo, Michigan. August 7th, 2011.

An intoxicated driver smashed into a fire hydrant causing a big sinkhole.

The accident happened on Gull Road near Sprinkle Road around 2:00 a.m. Sunday.

A Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Sergeant was on the road when he noticed a vehicle go by him.

The driver seemed to be having trouble staying in the lane.

The vehicle then drifted off the road and hit a fire hydrant.

Water started gushing from the fire hydrant causing a sinkhole.

After a couple of minutes the fire hydrant and the car started sinking into the ground.

The driver is okay.

No word on any charges.

Gull Road was shut down for some time while crews worked to clean up the accident, the water, and the smashed up fire hydrant.
