A sinkhole forced officials to close a bridge in Cecil Township on Tuesday.
The Oak Street Bridge in Muse is expected to stay closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic until the problem is fixed.
“Our plan is to remove structure pipes and use a back wall and just let it go as that,” said Cecil Township Manager Don Gennuso.
People who live nearby said the bridge has been falling apart for years.
“They have been running heavy trucks on here and they shouldn’t have been running heavy trucks,” said Chuck Tatano.
Gennuso said there are several other bridges in the community that are scheduled to be repaired.
“Just down the road is a county bridge that needs replacement so we have a mixed match of responsibility, three different communities or entities responsible for maintenance,” Gennuso said.
It is not clear when repair work on the Oak Street Bridge will be finished.
