Pouring rain and a sinkhole on South Erie Street made for a dangerous combination Monday morning.
Police say a driver hit some loose asphault on the sinkhole, which was about 3’x3′. As more rain fell, the hole grew to the length of the entire road, which police estimate to be about 10-15′.
As the road collapsed, the gas line ruptured. People living in the 2700 Block of South Erie Street had to be evacuated from their homes.
The gas and water company were called in to help assist with the situation.
